The new CLS-Class four-door Coupe is based on a unique vehicle concept which for the first time combines the elegance and dynamism of a coupe with the comfort and practicality of a saloon. Spaciousness, luggage capacity and day-to-day practicality are at the level of a saloon, while the design lines possess the emotionally charged character of a coupe. With this currently unique combination, the new CLS-Class is one coupe generation ahead. As a unique synthesis of a coupe and a saloon, the new CLS-Class offers a great deal more added value than other coupes. In this way Mercedes-Benz is once again emphasizing its role as a trendsetter for new ideas in the automotive world.
The Interior of the CLS-Class
The elegant styling of the CLS-Class extends throughout the interior, engaging colours creating an inviting ambience and topquality materials ensuring an extremely pleas-ant in-car environment. Soft leather and exquisite wood form the most important design elements of the interior, with the steering wheel and automatic transmission selector lever finished in leather trim as standard and the seats boasting an elegant fabric/leather combination. Customers can also choose from a range of three leather trim options and four interior colour shades.
The four-door Coupe concept also allows the rear passengers to get in and out of the car in comfort. Luxurious individual seats offer them impressive freedom of movement, whilst the 32-inch gap between the front and rear seats and the 57 inches of elbow room put comparable saloons in the shade. The newly developed seats for the driver and front passenger are electrically adjustable and can be ordered as an option with an active ventilation function or as dynamic multicontour seats.
The Engines for the New CLS-Coupe
A choice of two state-of-the-art petrol engines are available for the CLS-Class, both distinguished by majestic power development and exceptional torque characteristics.
With the 5.0-litre V8 engine the new CLS 500 need fear no performance comparison with thoroughbred sports cars, while offering the eight-cylinder comfort typical of a luxury-class saloon. This power unit has an output of 306 bhp and an impressive 430 lb-ft of torque. Once again the standard seven-speed automatic transmission plays its part here. The CLS-Class V8 Coupe accelerates from standstill to 62 mph in 6.1 seconds. The CLS-Class Coupe will arrive in Mercedes-Benz' European sales and service outlets and dealerships in autumn 2004.
